  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ningsa 寧捨 영사 An Orangkai who sreved as a commander(指揮) and presented local products to the king and appointed to a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) in the middle of the 15C.(1460)
Ningsa 寧舍 영사 He lived in東良北 and became a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) in Bonche(本處) in the middle of the 15C. It may be the same person as Ningsa(1460)
Nioarang 了阿郞 요아랑 He is the father of Emdaabuka who was a chiftain of Bukro(北虜)(1542)
Niogo 了古 요고 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 會伊春. The son of Bak Borgoso. The brother of Yadanggi, Yadamu, YArangga, Yaraga (1455)
Nioha 遼河 요하 A Jurchen of the 太宗 period (1405)
Nionio 牛鈕 우뉴 Late 17C, a Qing envoy. 翰林侍讀學士 (1681)
Niraca 尼羅車 니라거 A Ya-in(野人) who be punished. (1496)
Nirbi 李乙非 이을비 Mid 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) a senior military protector(上護軍) who offered local products (1468)
Nirci 李乙赤 이을치 A 護軍 of Odoli who naturalized and married a Hulun Udige(忽剌溫亐知介) at 婆猪江. (1443)
Nirirdu 李里乙豆 이리을두 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who sacked Joseon (1528)
