  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Yasda 李也叱大 이야질대 Mid 15C, Odoli(吾道里) who had an audience with the king and offered local products. He held a director. (1439)
Ni Yerangga 李汝郞介 이여랑개 Early 16C, a Jurchen(女眞) who planned a robbery in 三水. He was from 建州. He lived on the opposite side of 波猪江.(1525)
Ni Yere 李汝乙於 이여을어 A brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. (1455-1459)
Ni Yerongge 李汝弄巨 이여롱거 The brother of Ni Ningguci, Ni Sunjaci and Ni Nadaga(1528)
Ni Yerongge 李如弄巨 이여롱거 A Ya-in(野人) who killed 沈思遜 at 滿浦. (1528)
Ni Yeyee 李汝汝於 이여여어 Mid 15C, a 副萬戶of Kolkan(骨看) who presented local products. (1450)
Ni Yoraga 李要羅介 이요라개 A Ya-in(野人) (1528)
Ni jongaa 李終者阿 이종자아 A vice director(副司正) of Ya-in(野人) (1460)
Niaga 李阿可 이아가 A rectifier(司直) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in Hadongrang. (1455)
