  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nim Huangge 林黃巨 임황거 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Inguppogasya. (1455)
Nim I 林伊 임이 A Ya-in(野人) who was being imprisoned. (1528)
Nim Magi 林莫只 임막지 He is one of the Ya-in(野人)s of 建州 who planned to steal at 惠山鎭 and 仁遮外堡. (1525)
Nim Palasili 林八剌失里 임팔랄실리 Early 15C, a battalion commander(千戶) in Dongnyeng Post((東寧衛) who betrayed Ming and killed people. He came into Joseon and surrendered, but was transferred to Liaodong(遼東) (1402-1405)
Nim Parasi 林波羅實 임파라실 A soldier who led his scattered army group of the 遼東. Except Seng Sekrin(成石璘), goverment officials of Chosun insisted on accepting him. (1423).
Nim Paya 林波也 임파야 Mid 15C, a 指揮 of Orangkai(吾良哈) who presented local products. (1441)
Nim Saidu 林沙伊豆 임사이두 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who was locked in 江界. Later, he lied that he captured Nang Siabangga who murdered 沈思遜, but the captive turned out to be Nang Siyengge. (1528-1529)
Nim Sirdu 林時乙豆 임시을두 Mid 15C, a 同知中樞 of Orangkai who lived in 甫兒河何多. He offered local products (1463)
Nim temur 林帖木兒 임첩목아 A 千戶 under the command of Ni Manju, naturalized to Joseon with his wife. (1435)
NimModaho 林毛多胡 임모다호 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who came into 小Bori to ask something to eat to relieve hunger. (1424)
