  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Niangga 良家 양가 A battalion commander(千戶) of Odoli(斡朶里) (1428)
Nibji 泥邑之 니읍지 He is one of the Hulun Udiges who camped out in 후라 to invade 평안도. (1464)
Niboci 李甫赤 이보치 1. Early 15C, a 護軍 of Odoli(斡朶里) who had lived in 東良北 but asked to move into 靑嚴 with his famliy. His appeal was accepted. 2. Mid 15C, a 大護軍 of Orangkai(吾郞哈) who celebrated king's birth
Niborci 李甫兒赤 이보아치 A Orangkai(兀良哈) and the elder brother of Ni Jeri who was the Orangkai(兀良哈) 萬戶. He lived in 上東良, 210-ri(리) southwest from 會寧鎭. (1455)
Nidana 李多乃 이다내 An Orangkai rectifier who presented gift (1460)
Nidorci 李都兒赤 이도아치
