  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nim Gogo 林高古 임고고 A brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 中東良. The father-in-law of Nang Isengge(妻父). The father of agu (1455-1460)
Nim Hara 林哈剌 임합라 A commander of Ya-in who caused trouble in the border in the middle of the 15C. A commander who was under the control of Ni Manju (1433-1451)
Nim Hojing 林好澄 임호징 A man from the party of Sogona, a son of Maiha. He joined Sogona to commit robbery. (1512)
Nim Hosimpa 林好心波 임호심파 A 指揮 of Orangkai who was given clothes, shoes, and gats. (1441)
Nim Huajingga 林和澄可 임화징가 A Ya-in(野人) (1424)
