  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nigu 里仇 이구 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in SangGaha
Nihuaro 李和老 이화로 He is the husband of Hondasi who is the second daughter out of 5 boys and 5 girls of Ni Darhan and his wife is 黃氏
Nim Agu 林阿具 임아구 A military protector(護軍) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who betrayed Joseon. (1455-1462)
Nim Dai 林多伊 임다이 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products to the king. (1459)
Nim Daisina 林大伊時乃 임대이시내 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who asked for getting back his fled slave (1463)
