  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Harangga 李哈郞介 이합랑개 A Ya-in(野人) who planned to pillage villages. (1490)
Ni Harauga 李哈剌兀合 이합라올합 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who plotted to revolt with the soldiers of 三衛. the son of Ni Toman. (1494)
Ni Hoidumu 李會豆茂 이회두무 It's known that he lived in the same village with Ni Yerongge and commited robbery along with 50 others(1528)
Ni Hoingga 李好伊應可 이호이응가 A vice director(副司正) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The father of Unyongga,Suromo, Modasi (1455)
Ni Hongsoro 李洪所老 이홍소로 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king. He had sacked villages in Joseon but brought back. (1435-1437)
Ni Hosimpa 李好心波 이호심파 A 指揮 of 吾音會 who dedicated local products and was given clothes, gats, and shoes in return. (1406-1428)
Ni Hosinga 李好時應可 이호시응가 A Ya-in(野人) (1528)
Ni Hoto 李好吐 이호토 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who moved from 高嶺 to 蒲州. (1486)
Ni Huasu 李和秀 화수 The son of Durantemur. (1402)
