  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Dunggua 李豆應仇阿 이두응구아 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 何多山. The nephew of Ni Dorjima. The cousin of Ni Gimgim (1455)
Ni Duri 頭伊 두이 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江內 Suju. (1455)
Ni Duri 李豆里 이두리 A 指揮 of Orangkai in 建州衛. Ni Manju's son. 李于之Gamu's father. the son-in-law of Dong Sorotemur. (1455-1496)
Ni Erecu 李於乙於取 이어을어취 Early 15C, a naturalized 女眞 who asked to be a king's guard. He is from 개양 in China. (1424-1426)
Ni Ergengge 李於乙巨應巨 이어을거응거 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. (1544)
Ni Eunge 李於運介 이어운개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products to the king. (1465)
Ni Gagu 李可仇 이가구 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. The adoptive father of Nierye(李於呂) (1544)
Ni Gahong 李家紅 이가홍 1. Mid 15C, a 中樞 of 斡朶里 who had an audience with the king and presented local products. He informed Ya-in(野人)s of Abica's lie upon the command of the king. He was bestowed goods by the king for a reward of the contribution in the battefield. Ni Kerdege's cousin. 2. Mid 15C, a 中樞 of Orangkai who reported the movements of Ya-in(野人). He lived in 會寧.
Ni Gahua 李家和 이가화 Mid 15C, a 僉知 of Odoli of 高嶺 who reported the movements of Ya-in(野人)s (1464)
