  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Guidu 李貴豆 이귀두 An Orangkai who served as a commander(指揮) (1425)
Ni Guiya 李貴也 이귀야 1. a brigade commander(萬戶) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. The father of Ni Kerdege, Aidaga, Cegene. 2. An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. The uncle of Ni Doci, Jegene. 3. An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. The uncle of Ni Jumbi.
Ni Gumpa 李仇音波 이구음파 A Ya-in(野人) who was a 司直. He is one of the 65 men who were given blue cotton cloths, red cotton cloths, and knives differentially. (1456)
Ni Gunci 權赤 권치 1. →Ni Gunci 2. Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who presented local products. He was appointed 都萬戶
Ni Gunci 李權赤 이권치 15C, a 指揮 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who once lived in Borha. He became a henchman of Dong Cang and sacked villaged in Joseon. (1461-1468)
Ni Guningga 李仇寧哈 이구녕합 Late 15C, Ya-in(野人). (1482)
Ni Guntu 李權豆 이권두 A commander(指揮) of Odoli who presented local products to the king(1423)
Ni Gurangga 李仇郞介 이구랑개 A Ya-in(野人) who was given the king's gift. (1483)
Ni Haitu 李海投 이해투 Mid 16C, a son of Ni Ergengge and Huanju. Ni Sanggo's younger brother. 於呂's older brother. (1544)
