  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Cehene 李處虛乃 이처허내 He was a 都萬戶of Odoli(斡朶里). He is Gim Jusengge's son, a younger brother of Ni Kerdege and Adaga. (1463-1496)
Ni Cerguga 李處乙仇加 이처을구가 He lived around Manpo. The son of Ni Ajangga (1528)
Ni Coyangga 李肖陽哈 이초양합 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who had an audience with the king. He was in charge of delivering a document revealing 아비거's lie when Abica incited Ya-in(野人)s to raid Joseon. (1460)
Ni Dabi 李多非 이다비 former Chinese(楊里人) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 江內. The father of Juaoha, Jahuaro (1450, 1455)
Ni Daca 李多車 이다거 A Ya-in(野人) (1486)
Ni Dadu 李大豆 이대두 Early 15C,a battalion commander(千戶) of Odoli(斡朶里) who was under the control of Dong Menggegtemur. He visited Joseon as an envoy. He moved to Gilju and did farming later
Ni Dahorda 李多好兒多 이다호아다 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai who lived in 訓春 in late 15C. (1463)
