  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Mudige 無知哈 무지합 A 指揮 of Udige(兀狄哈) who presented local products to the king. (1427) (1427)
Mudingga 無知應哈 무지응합 Early 15C, an 兀狄哈 百戶 who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king. (1423)
Mudongga 無同介 무동개 The son of Sarongga. He came to Joseon mispresenting himself as Mangga, the son of Garongga. (1442)
Mudu 無豆 무두 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived in HaBakga bira(下朴加別羅)
Muduri 無豆里 무두리 A Ya-in(1535)
Mugarhen 睦加乙獻 목가을헌 A naturalized Jurchen(女眞) who volunteered to be a 侍衛. He received presents from the king with Ni Erecu and others. He belonged to 開陽. He was on the list of those who would be released and get their titles back. (1424-1426)
Mugengge 無巨應可 무거응가 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in Yesan. The son of Gim Jorangga. The cousin of Aigangga, Ajiga (1455)
Muhuhuri 茂侯侯里 무후후리 Mid 15
Mui 武夷 무이 Early 17C, Jurchen Jin envoy who came with horses and camels to give a reward for envoy 朴籚's visiting
