  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Modangga 毛堂哈 모당합 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Hulun who was bestowed goods by the king. (1438)
Modao 毛多吾 모다오 An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 下多家舍. The younger brother of Dong Mangge/ Dong Mengge, Dong Gamu(童Temu). The son of Dong Gasipa
Modaoda 毛多吾多 모다오다 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. (1455)
Modaoga 毛多吾哈 모다오합 Early 15C, a Hulun Udige who had an audience with the king and submitted. A sincere and supportive one. Sosingga's grandson. Nabda's cousin. (1437)
