  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Mosangga 莫尙介 막상개 A Ya-in(野人) (1602)
Mubori 茂甫里 무보리 Early 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) a commander who returned what he sacked. He lived in 愁州 (1423)
Muca 無扎 무찰 A 指揮 of Mara衛 who summoned Monggodota to have an audience with the King. (1439)
Mudaho 無多好 무다호 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived in Namra耳, 白頭山. (1474)
Mudang Sele 木當薛列 목당설렬 He promoted from a commander(指揮) a to a battalion commander(千戶) and granred gifts(1460)
