  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Modau 毛多右 모다우 Mid 15C, a 女眞人 who lived in 吾音會里 for a long time. He fled to 愁州 and other places due to the raid of 니마차 尼麻車兀狄哈. (1465-1466)
Modau 毛多亐 모다울 Mid 15C, An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 下訓春.(1455)
Modo 毛都 모도 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 下訓春. The son of Gim Sarongga. The nephew of Yesungge (1455)
Modoga 木刀哈 목도합 He is the father of Wang Sanciha and a son of Sobingga. (1510)
Modogo 毛都古 모도고 A Hulun Udige(火刺溫兀狄哈) who invaded 慈城. (1440-1464)
Modoho 毛都好 모도호 Early 15C, 灘兀川衛 指揮 who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king. (1439-1442)
Modonggua 毛同果 모동과 A Ya-in(野人) who rose in rebellion. (1461)
Modoo 毛都吾 모도오 A rectifier(司直) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. The son of Bak Nueci. The brother of Garo (1455)
