  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Irjiu 伊乙之右 이을지우 Mid 15C, an Udige(兀狄哈) who presented local products. He had an audience with the king Sejo. (1459)
Irongga 伊弄哈 이롱합 Early 15C, a 指揮 of 亦迷河衛 who was sent by Siramo to have an audience with the king. (1439)

Irpa 伊乙波 이을파 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in Masangga下. He betrayed the enemies, surrendered, and wished to live under the fortress. (1460)
Isama 伊思麿 이사마 Early 15C, Odoli(斡朶里) who offered local products. Dong Guntu sent him. (1428)
Isangga 伊沙應可 이사응가 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in Ollihaisan Post(Uli奚山衛) is under the command of Usengge. (1439)
Isdumari 伊叱豆麻里 이질두마리 A director(司正) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. (1455)
Isengge 衣成可 의성가 A Hulun of 石門衛 who was sent by Yurongga. (1439)
Isga 伊叱介 이질개 1. a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 汝甫島. 2. a battalion commander(千戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 上訓春. 3. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 上訓春
