  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Husingga 厚時應哈 후시응합 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who reported the movements of Ya-in(野人)s and delivered a letter from Ni Manju. (1460)
Husipa 厚時波 후시파 He is 指揮 of Hulun Udige who dedicated local products. (1438)
Husiri 厚時里 후시리 Early 17C, a Ya-in(野人) who entered the castle of Nurhaci with his family. Nitangga's son (1601-1607)
Iburai, Ibrahim 亦卜剌 역복라 He is the one whom 吉囊, the head of 北虜, conspired with. (1542)
Icejung 李處中 이처중 Late 15C, a 萬戶 who failed to protect his village from robbers. (1487)
