  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Injibuha 仁之夫下 인지부하 A 千戶 of 斡朶里 who dedicated local products. (1427)
Insoga 引速哈 인속합 1. A 上護軍 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who dedicated local products. (1488) 2. A 僉知 of Odoli(斡朶里) who had an audience with the King. (1492)
Intu 殷杜 은두 Late 17C, a general of 寧古塔. (1689)
Ipa 伊波 이파 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 毛憐衛. He committed robberies in Liaodong. (1466)
Ipada 伊波大 이파대 A commander(指揮) of Ya-in(野人) who was bestowed goods in the early 15C. (1436)
Irada 伊羅大 이라대 Mid 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 沙吾耳. He sacked Joseon people. An older brother of Daisia
Iraga 伊羅介 이라개 A vice director(副司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who reported a war.
Irang 伊郞 이랑 The brother of JJo Darangga (1493)
Irangga 伊良哈 이량합 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in Gura. He was naturalized
