  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Irangga 伊郞介 이랑개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in outside of 訓戎江

Iratemu 而羅加茂 이라가무 A battalion commander(千戶) of Orangkai who presented local products to the king(1432)
Irbang 伊乙方 이을방 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who plotted to sack Joseon. He was under the control of Ni Manju (1465)
Irda 伊乙大 이을대 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. The son of Gim Tosi. The brother of Narongga, Namrangga
Irda 伊乙多 이을다 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Morian. (1455)
Irdangga 逸當哥 일당가 A commander-in-chief(都指揮) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in Horang Post(虎狼衛). The father-in-law of Ni Manju's son. (1437)
