Huang Fu 黃福 황복
(황푸)
(1362-1440). A native of Changyi 昌邑, Shandong 山東. Emperor Hongwu 洪武 was fond of his talent and made him Vice Minister 侍郞 of the Ministry of Works 工部. Emperor Jianwen 建文 also highly regarded him, and Emperor Yongle 永樂 promoted him to Minister of the same ministry. After Ming conquered Vietnam, he was made one of the top civil administrators in Chinese Vietnam and successfully governed the new territory for 19 years. During the Hongxi 洪熙 period, he became Minister of the Ministry of Revenue 戶部. 황복(黃福)
Huang Gai 黃蓋 황개
(황가이)
A military general under the Sun family of the Eastern Wu 東吳 for three generations during the Eastern Han and Three Kingdoms periods. At the Battle of Red Cliffs in 208, Huang Gai, with Zhou Yu 周瑜, planned and carried out an attack by fire-ships which destroyed Cao Cao's 曹操 gigantic forces. 공복(Gongfu 公覆)
Huang Gan 黃榦 황간
(황간)
Huang Gan(黃幹, 1152-1221) was an official and Neo-Confucian scholar of the Song Dynasty. He was a son-in-law of Zhu Xi(朱熹) and one of the most important disciples of Zhu Xi. He compiled the Obituary for Zhuzi(朱子行狀). 간(榦), 면재(勉齋), 황간(黃幹), 황간(黃榦), 직경(直卿)
Huang Hongxian 黃洪憲 황홍헌
(황훙셴)
(1541-1600). A native of Jiaxing 嘉興 and jinshi of 1571. Later he became vice supervisor 少詹事 of the Household of the Heir Apparent 東宮. He once visited Korea as an envoy in order to announce the new heir apparent of Ming in 1582. Zhang Juzheng 張居正 was fond of his writing style. Huang Huai 黃淮 황회
(황화이)
(1367-1449). A native of Wenzhou 溫州, Zhejiang 浙江 and jinshi of 1397. Emperor Yongle 永樂 ordered him to participate in state affairs as his secretary. Later he was made academician reader-in-waiting 侍讀學士. In 1413 when Yongle conquered the Mongols, Huang was ordered to stay in Beijing and administer state affairs. But, as crown prince Zhu Gaochi could not receive the father Emperor properly when Yongle returned from the expedition, Huang, then teacher of the crown prince, was put in jail. He was released only after the crown prince was enthroned Emperor Hongxi 洪熙 . He served Emperor Hongxi in the postion of Grand Secretary 大學士. In 1426 when Emperor Xuande宣德 led an army against his rebel uncle, Huang stayed in Beijing and supervised state affairs. Both Xuande and the next Zhengtong 正統 emperor respected him as a senior and meritorious official. 황회(黃淮)
Huang Jinbao 黃進保 황진보
(황진바오)
An officer in Jinxiangwei 金鄕衛, Zhejiang 浙江. He sailed for Beijing with grain, but he drifted to Gilju 吉州. The Joseon court sent him to Liaodong 遼東. 황진보(黃進保)
Huang Jingchen 黃經臣 황경신
(황징천)
Huang Jingchen(黃經臣) was a eunuch official of the Northern Song Dynasty. In the reign of Emperor Huizong(徽宗), he and Tong Guan(童貫) were accused of abusing power by Chen He(陳禾). He was also allied with Consort Zheng(鄭貴妃), an imperial concubine of Emperor Huizong, and devised a plot to expel Zheng Juzong(鄭居中) for her. 황경신(黃經臣)
Huang Kaibo 黃愷伯 황개백
(황카이보)
Huang Kaibo(黃愷伯) was a student of the National University(太學) in the reign of Emperor Lizong(理宗) of the Song Dynasty. In 1242, he and other students impeached the Grand Councilor Shi Songzhi(史嵩之) for Shi's refusal to retire from office during the period of mourning for his father. 황개백(黃愷伯)
Huang Liji 黃立極 황립극
(황리지)
A native of Yuancheng 元城, Zhili 直隷 and jinshi of 1604. During the reign of Tianqi 天啓, he became a loyal subordinate of Wei Zhongxian 魏忠賢, the strongman in the court of those days. He was appointed Minister 尙書 of the Ministry of Rites 禮部 as well as Grand Secretary 大學士 in 1625. In the next year he became the first ranking grand secretary 內閣首輔. After Emperor Chongzhen 崇禎 was enthroned, he was immediately dismissed. 황립극(黃立極)
Huang Lung 黃龍 황룡
(황룽)
(d. 1633). A native of Liaodong 遼東. Origianlly he was a lower officer. As he made military contributions successively, he was promoted to vice regional commander 副總兵 and then regional commander 總兵. He defeated Manchus in Lanzhou 灤州 and suppressed rebellions in Gado 椵島 and Lushun(旅順). Later he was defeated by Manchus and committed suicide. 황룡(黃龍)
