  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dorci 都兒赤 도아치 1. A Ya-in(野人) from 東寧衛 and the husband of Tasi, who is a captive from 北京. (1480) 2. A Ya-in(野人) who captured and enslaved Gamasei and 要姐, who were two of seven female 遼東 東寧衛 captives from 北京. (1480)
Dorci 都乙赤 도을치 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Belin
Dorga 朶兒哈 타아합 Mid 15C, a woman from 東寧衛 in 遼東. She was captured but escaped. She was released to 遼東. (1459)
Dorga 石兒可 석아가 A commander(指揮) of 建州衛. (1458)
