  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dota 朶塔 타탑 A Orangkai(兀良哈) who was appointed as the 副萬戶 of 蒲州. (1456)
Dotaga 都塔哈 도탑합 A 大護軍 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who came to the royal court of Joseon. (1474)
Doyang 倒羊 도양 Mid 15C, a 指揮僉使 who was appointed as 副萬戶 in recognition of reporting troubles (1460)
Dubo 豆甫 두보 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived in Ochian(吾治安)
Dubsi 豆邑時 두읍시 A rectifier(司直) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Hesura. (1455)
Ducingga 豆稱哥 두칭가 An Odoli(斡朶里)(1441)
Dudu 斗斗阿古 두두아고 ['Dong Guendu' means children of emperor's siblings.] He is the grandson of Nurhaci. (1596-1642)
Dudu Beile 大頭貝勒 대두패륵 the son of 褚英, the grandson of Nurhaci.(?-1642)
