  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Tai 童太醫 동태의 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was bestowed goods by the king. He lived in 遼東. (1423-1434)
Dong Tasi 童托時 동탁시 An Odoli who lived in Hunhe(薰許)(1460)
Dong Tasiga 童他時哈 동타시합 A Ya-in(野人) who was in control of the village of 餘屯洞. It was reported that he was planning to commit robbery in the 滿浦 areas. (1525) He was expelled in 1524 and was killed. (1533) (1523-1533)

Dong Toron 童都論 동도론 He served as a commissioner-in-chief(都督) in Genju Left Post(左衛)(1482), and a chieftain in Left Post(左衛)(1493)(1497). He is the son of Dong Cang(1482).
Dong Urju 童亐乙主 동우을주 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in SangGaha. (1425) 2. Mid 15C, an 吾Ni Duri who lived in Joseon but fled
Dong Usingge 童亐時應巨 동우시응거 A Ya-in(野人) (1472)
Dong Wenjetemur 童完者帖木兒 동완자첩목아 A 千戶 of 毛隣衛 visited the Joseon court and paid a tribute of local products. (1434)
