  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dongaro 佟阿蘆 동아로 Early 15C, A battalion commander of Tulu(禿魯兀千戶) whose name appeared in a Royal letter (1404-1418)
Dongbi 佟妃 동비 Mid 17C, Qing ShunzhiEmperor((順治帝) 's concubine. Her family name is Tung(佟). She is Xuanye's mother. (1661)
Dongcamga 佟參哈 동참합 A battalion commander(千戶) of 禿魯兀. (1404)
Dongcengli 童淸禮 동청례 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was naturalized. He served as an envoy(兼司僕). He was appointed to a Gyengchagwan(敬差官) in the Three Post(三衛) later. He came from Hoiryeng(會寧). a younger brother of Dong Aimangga and Dong Cengji. an uncle of Gim Dandamu (1485)
Dongda 佟大 동대 Late 16C, a Ya-in(野人). Nurhaci stayed in his house. (1592-1596)
