  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Yaodamu 也吾多茂 야오다무 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Morian. (1455)
Yaoga 也吾可 야오가 A battalion commander(千戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived around Dongrangbuk(東良北)
Yaoga 也吾哈 야오합 1. Early 15C, a 千戶 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king 2. Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) of 東寧衛 who raided the border area several times and finally being captured. Arsi's husband. 了同's son-in-law. Nada's father.
Yaoge 也吾巨 야오거 1. The mother of Dong Fanca. The daughter of Boga. 2. a commander(指揮) who lived in SangGaha(Masangga下). He was naturalized
Yaojingga 也吾澄可 야오징가 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The son of Nyu Niu Yaosingga (1455)
Yaona 也吾乃 야오내 1. a commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Ingeuppogasya. 2. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江內 Suju. 3. **사로잡힌 a Ya-in(野人). the daughter of Gunariga. the wife of a Ya-in(野人) Acungga. 4. →Choeiyaonai 5. Sadi(斜地)에 사는 a Ya-in(野人) a commander. 鍾城으로 귀화함**
Yaosi 也吾時 야오시 1. a Hulun Udige(1438) 2. a commander(指揮) of Jurchen(1441)
Yaosi 耶吾時 야오시 A commander in-chief(都指揮) of 亦迷河衛 (1439)
Yaota 也吾他 야오타 He is the father of Ahari and Dong Modaoci. (1441)
Yaotai 也吾泰 야오태 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who had lived in 會春 with Surimungga. He wished to go back to his homeland, 巨陽城 with his family but failed. Instead, he asked to live in Joseon and stayed in 慶興. Gimudu巨's husband. Juyangga's grandfather. (1477)
