  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Yake 也克 야극 Mid 15C, an 兀良哈 who lived in 訓春. He was appointed as 仍邑包 都萬戶
Yalingga 也令哈 야령합 Early 15C, a 指揮 僉事 of Hulun who lived in 葛林衛 who was sent by Jingdino to present local products. He had an audience with the king and submitted. (1439)
Yambu 也音夫 야음부 1. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江內. 2. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Iungge. The father of Isina, Jujangga, Yadanggi, Dondo, Songge (1455)
Yana 也那 야나 A Jianzhou Jurchen who was captures to Joseon Army. SA daughter of Juagui and wife of Niu Hua at 東寧衛. (1480)
Yana 也乃 야내 1. a military protector(護軍) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Saoi. The father of Joci, Joga. 2. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江內
Yang Manpi 楊滿皮 양만피 He is a younger brother of Yang Modau. He paid a tribute to China. (1425-1435)
Yang Modau 楊木答兀 양목답올 A 千戶 of Jurchen(女眞). the brother of Yang Manpi(1423-1483)
Yang Sangga 楊雙阿 양쌍아 The posthumous name of one from 夫汝只, who retired to 현성 and countered the attack by the Hulun. (1606)
