  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Wijahoro 委自胡老 위자호로 A battalion commander(千戶) from 婆猪江 who was sent back to Pyengando(平安道)(1435)
Wirang 韋朗 위랑 欽差鎭守,director(太監) of 遼東(1480)
Wuhei 鄔黑 오흑 A Qing envoy. 禮部啓心郞. (1645)
Xuanye 玄燁 현엽 Mid 17C, the Qing emperor who ascended the throne in 1661. 康熙帝's name.
Xudouchengha 許豆成哈 허두성합 A 遼東人 who was captured by Gungsi, a Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛, but escaped to 渭原鎭 of 平安道 and was released to 遼東. (1482)
Yabjangga 也邑將哈 야읍장합 Mid 15C, an 兀良哈 who tried to revenge for the murdered Gangge and Yaringga. He lived in 時應岐伊. An older brother of Gurimge, Egangge, Yaringga. (1465)
Yabo 也甫 야보 Early 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) a commander(指揮) who offered local products. (1423-1446)
Yabsi 也邑時 야읍시 A grand military protector(大護軍) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 伐引.
