  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Wangsari 王沙里 왕사리 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who offered local products. An envoy for the head of GenjuRight Post(建州右衛) Dong Bohato. (1485-1486)
Wangsigaro 王時家老 왕시가로 Mid 15C, a Jurchen(女眞) who was naturalized from 婆猪江. The king appointed him as a vice director at first hand. (1438)
Wangtara 王朶羅 왕타라 He served as an assistant commander in-chief(都指揮僉事) in the middle of the 15C(1441)
Waningga 臥尼應介 와니응개 A naturalized Ya-in(野人) (1607)
Wanyanliang 完顔亮 완안양 the second son of 宗幹, the fourth king of 遼. (1122-1161)
Waraga 臥羅可 와라가 A rectifier(司直) of Nimaca Udige. (1460)
Warangga 臥郞介 와랑개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Achiranggui(阿赤郞耳). The son of Sada. (1455)
Waranggi 臥郞伊 와랑이 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. The father of Garongga (1455)
Warida 臥里大 와리대 15C, a commander of Gilha Post(吉河衛指揮) who offered local products by sending men (1440)
