  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Wenhosina 元好時乃 원호시내 1. During the era of Seijo and Yejong, a Jurchen(女眞) a brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) who offered local products(1459-1469) 2. Late 15C, an Orangkai(兀良哈) 中樞 who offered local products(1475)
Weni 遠伊 원이 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 汝甫島. (1455)
Wenjebuka, Oljei buka 完者不花 완자불화 The son of Dojo(度祖)
Wensaoda 元舍吾大 원사오대 Early 16C, The head of a Ya-in(野人) (1523-1524)
Wensihona 元時好乃 원시호내 Mid 15C, an Orangkai a brigade commander-in-chief(兀良哈都萬戶) who offered local products. He lived in Hunchun(訓春) (1463)
Wensimu 原時無 원시무 A battalion commander(千戶) sent by Guntu of Odoli(斡朶里) to present local products to the king. He lived in 阿木河 of Hamgildo in early 15C(1428)
