  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Oso 吾所 오소 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Donggen. (1455)
Osodi 吳小的 오소적 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was captured but escaped. He was sent to 遼東. (1436)
Otongga 吾通哈 오통합 A 千戶 of Udige(兀狄哈) who volunteered to be a 侍衛 in seoul and was given presents as a reward. (1424)
Owajao 吾臥者吾 오와자오 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in Yeo. (1459)
Oyangga 吾陽可 오양가 A Ya-in(野人) (1458)
Oyega 吾汝哈 오여합 Mid 15C, an 斡朶里 Ya-in(野人) who was reluctant to be a man of Joseon after seeing naturalized people's labor in 북청. (1442)
Padamu 波多茂 파다무 A Nimaca Udige who appointed to a rectifier(司直)(1460)
Pagada 破可大 파가대 A Ya-in(1497)
Pagada 波加大 파가대 He lived in 河伊亂 who crossed the border and took horses and cows with Bodogo and others(1466).
