  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Opa 吾波 오파 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who was given the position of 副司正 and cotton cloths as a reward for his contribution on subjugating the northern areas. (1460)
Oraci 吾羅赤 오라치 Late 16C, a head of 慶原 who killed Joseon people and sacked. (1593)
Orada 吾羅大 오라대 15C, an Udige(兀狄哈) who asked to get back the dead bodies of his sons that died while invading the border. a brother of Kerdege. (1443-1444)
Orangju 吾郞主 오랑주 Mid 15C, a 指揮 of Orangkai who presented local products (1442)
Orbingga 吾乙賓介 오을빈개 A rectifier(司直) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 會伊春. He surrendered, and was given clothes, gats, and shoes at his retirement. The son of Bak Paida. The grandson of Marato. The brother of Sainbuha, Saintemu, Soitemu. The nephew of Bak Borgoso (1441)
Orbo 吾乙甫 오을보 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who bought a Chinese man, Jupari(朱Pari) and enslaved him. (1472)
Ordo 吳爾都 오이도 A former 城守尉 in 鳳凰城, because he didn't report his office work well, he got stirpped of his position(1723)
Ordoga 吾乙都介 오을도개 The Chieftain(酋長) of Udige(尼麻車兀狄哈). The son of Yadaho. He wanted to be naturalized. (1492-1493)
Ordogo 吾乙都古 오을도고 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Nimaca Udige who lived in Guju(具州)
Ordogo 兀都古 올도고 A Chieftain(酋長) of Nimacha(尼麻車) who requested an amity relation. (1492)
