  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nonggem 龍儉 용검 A son of Gim Dongga, a Ya-in(野人. A slave but escaped to the 兀狄哈 area. (1428)
Nongrangga 龍良哈 용량합 Early 15C, a 女眞 who lived in Hulun. (1438)
Nono 奴奴 노노 15C, A Chinese(漢人) 李善輩's wife who was captured but fled back
Nonoho 老奴好 노노호 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Hulun who presented local products. (1439)
Nora 老羅 노라 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人). King appointed him as a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) at first hand
Norangga 老郞哈 노랑합 A 대거절 Udige(大居節兀狄哈). (1492)
Norangsi 奴郞時 노랑시 A son of Ni Darhan. (1493)
Norbi 奴兒非 노아비 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) an assistant of commander who offered local products. Guimi sent him. (1439)
Noro 老虜 노노 A vulgar name for Nurhachi
