  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nosa 老沙 노사 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江外愁州
Nosi, Lošo 盧氏 노씨, 로쇼 Mid 17C, a general who came in with Ingguldai (1395-1397)
Noto 老土 노토 Late 16C, a head of Orangkai who lived in the deep woods. A consistant threat to the north of the Joseon dynasty. The father of Aro, Cinggisa, Yerongge, Wangginu. (1603)
Noya 老也 노야 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Morian
Noyogo 老要古 노요고 A vice director(副司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Daon. The elder brother of Bori(Bori )
Noyong 老用 노용 A 千戶) who lived in 於坡. (1467)
Nucai 樓蔡 누채 A Ya-in(野人) of 遼東 descent. He was captured and served as a slave of Niu Nongga of Orangkai(兀良哈) at 建州衛, but escaped to Joseon and requested to be naturalized. (1478)
