  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Orga 兀加 올가 A Ya-in(野人) of Haise (1491)
Orgosu 吾乙古守 오을고수 Late 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) who informed the plot of a Ya-ins(野人) to invade Joseon beforehand (1476)
Origa 吾里介 오리개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. The son of Sada (1496)
Oringga 吾麟可 오린가 An Orangkai(兀良哈) (1477)
Orjangga 兀長加 올장가 A Ya-in(野人) who presented local products to the king. He is under the command of Naga (1439)
Orjenggi 兀丁奇 올정기 A Jurchen who was appointed vice brigade commander of Poju (1456-1465)
Orjiga 吾乙之介 오을지개 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 虛水剌里. He is one of those who gave shelter to runaway naturalized people. At first he did not hide it, but later he changed his statement, saying they were gone. (1483)
Ormi 吾乙未 오을미 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 甫靑浦(1455)
Oro 吾老 오로 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. The son of Gumso(1455)
