  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Omina 吾未乃 오미내 A vice rectifier(副司直) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Belin. The son-in-law of Baimaraga(裵麻羅可) (1454-1455)
Omina 兀彌乃 올미내 a commander of Jurchen(女眞指揮) who lived in Kyengwen(慶源) in the mid 15C (1461)
Omoktu 梧木道 오목도 A general of Ya-in(胡將) who accompanied Inpyeng Dagun(印平麟坪大君) as Hohaingkwan(護行官) in his way back from Shimyang in the middle of the 17C(1640)
Oncingga 溫稱介 온칭개 A Ya-in(野人) who quarreled with Gim Burseng. (1457)
Oncung 溫忠 온충 Late 15C, an interpreter 千百戶 (1476)
Ongju 雍朱 옹주 Late 15C, a man from 建州衛. (1493)
Oningga 吾寧應哈 오녕응합 Early 15C, a Hulun 都指揮 who was sent by Berge to have an audience with the king. (1437)
Onjiga 溫之介 온지개 the younger brother of Ni Samanda who lived in 虛水羅洞. (1482)
Onto 溫土 온토 Mid 15C, an 兀良哈 who raided Joseon and sacked with 具州 兀狄哈
Oodai 敖垈 오대 Late 17C, a Qing envoy. An imperial guard(侍衛) (1709)
