  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nurbo 訥甫 눌보 Late 15C, a man who escaped from an Orangkai. He was sent to Liaodong(遼東). (1483)
Nureri 訥兒於里 눌아어리 Late 15C, a woman from Liaodong(遼東) 東寧衛. She was captured. Nabin's daughter. (1480)
Nurhaci 奴兒哈赤 노아합치 He was a cheiftain of 建州衛 and became the founder of Qing Dynasty later. (1559-1626.9.30)
Nusaga 屢沙哈 누사합 A 萬戶 of Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 慶興. (1461)
Nusi 訥失 눌실 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Morian. (1459)
