  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Ardamu 李阿乙多茂 이아을다무 →Ni Artemu
Ni Ardisi 李阿乙知時 이아을지시 A vice director(副司正) of Ya-in(野人) (1460)
Ni Ardu 李阿乙豆 이아을두 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who fled to the mainland (1482)
Ni Aroga 李阿老介 이아로개 A naturalized Ya-in(野人) who as a Joseon person lived in Chengam(靑巖) of Bunyeng(富寧) (1482)
Ni Artemu 李阿乙加茂 이아을가무 He was naturalized in late 15C. A fomer Odoli who lived in 鏡城. He brought back a runaway and he received a price because of his contribtion(1482,1483). (1482-1483)
