  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Berge 李伐介 이벌개 A Ya-in(野人) (1460)
Ni Birangga 李別郞哈 이별랑합 one of the five 使送人s of Naha, a 副酋長 of 右衛. He, Dong Geudong and others were given goods from the King when bidding farewell to the King. (1486)
Ni Bodan 李甫丹 이보단 A Ya-in served as a commander(指揮) greeted king Seijong in Geunjengjen(勤政殿). And he granted gifts including clothes, gats(Korean traditional hat made of bamboo and horsehair) and shoes from Seijong in early 15C(1434)
