  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Narato 剌剌土 나라토 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived near the 鮮河江) hill and 踈也川). He plotted to raid the area of 閭延) with his soldiers but withdrew. (1439)
Naratu 那羅禿 나라독 A Ya-in who lived in the middle of the 15C, and called for naturalization in the mid 15C. He was invited to a feast by the king(1461-1462).
Naratu 納剌禿 납라독 An Orangkai who served as a commander(指揮使) in the middle of the 15C(1455)
Narimbulu 羅里 나리 the King of Yehe(1596)
Naringga 羅麟可 나린가 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 何多山. The younger brother of Nyu Niu Garbingga (1455)
Naro 羅老 나로 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The son of Niu Hoto. The brother of Sorsi
Narongga 羅弄介 나롱개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. The son of Gim Tosi. The brother of Namrangga, Irda (1455)
