  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nang Modao 浪毛多吾 낭모다오 An uncle of Nang Borhan, an Orangkai(吾良哈). He was stabbed to death by his son Nang Boyadu. (1438)
Nang Naga 浪羅介 낭나개 He convinced Nang Siyengge to pretend to be a criminal. (1528)
Nang Najiga 郞羅郞可 나즉가마 →浪Dong Narangga
Nang Narangga 浪羅郞介 낭나랑개 A Ya-in(野人) who committed a crime. (1528-1529)
Nang Nasu 浪羅守 낭나수 A senior military protector(上護軍) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Dongrangbuk(東良北). (1459-1460)
Nang Nigada 浪尼加大 낭니가대 An Orangkai who was naturalized. Eventhough he threw out Gwangyo(官敎) and tear up the headband made of horsehair(網巾) that king offer to him and later was forgiven and freed. the son of Ryu Niu Eringga . (1459-1492)
Nang Nooto 浪老吾土 낭로오토 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. (1517)
Nang Nootu 浪老吾投 낭노오투 Early 16C, 建州衛 Ya-in(野人)[彼人] who informed a wrong plot of raid to a government officer of Joseon and secretly shared what the robbers plundered. (1513-1529)
Nang Nusiga 浪婁時哈 낭누시합 A 중추원사 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who came to the Joseon government and was given goods. He lived in 중동량. (1442-1462)
Nang Parseng 浪波乙生 낭파을생 A rectifier(司直) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 中東良. (1455)
