  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Nammongga 南蒙介 남몽개 A Ya-in(野人) who plundered villages with Sogona. (1512)
Namna 南乃 남내 A Ya-in Gemchen(檢天) who has matrimony relation with Gesui
Namra 南剌 남라 Mid 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 鍾城 愁州
Namra 南羅 남라 Mid 15C, a vice director(副司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who offered local products. He lived in 甫伊下. He held a brigade vice commander(副萬戶)
Namrangga 南郞介 남낭개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. The son of Gim Tosi. The brother of Narongga, Irda. (1455)
Namta 南打 남타 A Ya-in(野人) from 建州衛 who captured and enslaved Gogai, the daughter of 崔會. 崔會 is the 餘丁 of 崔成, and 崔成 is the 馬軍 of 遼東 東寧衛. (1480)
Namtai 南木太 남목태 He is one of the 8 ministers of 대금국 who were at the place of the Vow of Amity. (1627)
Nanan 那難 나난 The daughter-in-law of Cahan of 奚官 萬戶府 (1409)
Nandaga 難多哈 난다합 Late 15C, a surbmitted Ya-in(野人) who married to a woman ran away from Joseon. There had been letters sent from Joseon government ordering to bring the woman back but he disobeyed. He rejected to have an audience with the king for this reason. (1485)
Nando 難道 난도 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in outside of 東臨江.
