  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Juahuagida 佐和奇大 좌화기대 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江外愁州. The younger brother of Ecige. (1455)
Juaide 佐伊德 좌이덕 A prisoner in 北靑(1434)
Juaoha 佐吾下 좌오하 An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 江內. The son of Ni Dabi. The brother of Jahuaro. (1455)
Jubensima 朱蹯失馬 주번실마 A Ya-in(野人) (1404)
Jubobi 朱甫非 주보비 Mid 15C, an Orangkai(吾郞哈) who once was under the control of Ni Manju. He was naturalized and had an audience with the king. (1441-1448)
Jucangga 周昌哈 주창합 A Odoli(斡朶里) who came to Seoul and reported to 禮曹 what Dong Jampa and Mapara said. He was doubtful about doing forced labor. (1442)
Jucengge 朱靑巨 주청거 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) (1458)
Juci 朱赤 주치 A 指揮 of 家下衛 sent by Sacungga, also a 指揮 of 家下衛, to have an audience with and dedicate local products to the King. (1439)
Judongge 柱同於 주동어 Mid 15C, an Udige(兀狄哈) who entered Joseon and sacked. An older brother of Jurongge and Nisama. (1467)
