  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Josampa 趙三波 조삼파 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 吾乙面. He, along with other Ya-in(野人)s, led 100(approximate) soldiers and attempted to murder Joseon envoys planning to see the King. (1461) He said 浪浡兒罕 is his brother. (1462) He is also known as 建州衛野人 and his 8 sons requested to be naturalized. (1497)
Josampa 趙三八 조삼팔 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who was appointed as the 蒲州 副萬戶. (1456)
Joyangga 照陽哈 조양합 Mid 15C, a 指揮 of Orangkai(吾良哈) who presented local products. (1441)
Joyangga 照陽可 조양가 1. →Joyangga. 2. commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 毛憐衛. (1455)
Joyangga 照陽介 조양개 →Joyangga
Ju Jangga 朱章可 주장가 A Ya-in(野人) who was given the king's gift. (1486)
