  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Jonojai 趙奴才 조노재 He was one of the envoys from Ni Darhan who was a chieftain of 建州 中衛. He received presents from the king. (1485)
Jorangga 綽郞哈 작랑합 A 指揮 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who dedicated local products. (1485)
Jorangga 照郞介 조랑개 A Kolkan Udige(骨看亐狄哈) who lived in 餘山. (1441)
Jorangga 照郞哈 조랑합 1) A Kolkan Udige(骨看亐知哈) who dedicated local products. (1420) 2) A 千戶 of Hulun Udige(闊兒看兀狄哈) who dedicated local products and leather goods to the King, and was given cotton cloths in return. It is assumed that he is the Udige who dedicated local products in 1428.
Jorangga 照良哈 조량합 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Udige(兀狄哈)who presented local products(1420)
Jorangjangdongga 照郞將同哈 조랑장동합 A 千戶 of Udige(兀狄哈) who dedicated local products and was given some goods as a reward. (1423)
Jordo 照乙道 조을도 1. A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. 2. a director(司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in outside of 訓戎江. (1455)
Jorgoi 照乙怪 조을괴 A battalion commander(千戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈). (1395)
Joriktu親王 招凌兎親王 초릉토친왕 This is a title of a person, Ukshan(吴克善). (1651)
Joringga 照麟可 조린가 A Hulun Udige(Hulun兀狄哈) who lived in 河伊沙吾羅. He presented local products to king.
