  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Jo Darangga 趙多郞哈 조다랑합 Late 15C, 建州衛 Ya-in(野人) who tried to revenge for the death of 조이리합 but failed. Jo Iriga's younger brother. He was naturalized. (1492-1493)
Jo Dorci 趙都乙赤 조도을치 A Ya-in(建州野人)who was naturalized but was suspected that he might seek revenge. (1483)
Jo Dure 趙豆乙於 조두을어 Mid 15C, a 指揮 who presented local products. (1458)
Jo Dursi 趙豆乙屎 조두을시 He is the son-in-law of Gim Guga who is the younger brother of Gim Udangga who served as a commander(指揮) in 建州衛(1496)
Jo Ehua 趙於咊 조어咊 A Ya-in(野人). (1470)
Jo Gardu 趙加乙豆 조가을두 Late 15C, a commander(指揮) of 建州 (1496)
Jo Iriga 趙伊里哈 조이리합 Late 15C, a 建州衛 Ya-in(野人) who plundered villages in Joseon several times and was killed in the middle of plundering. Jo Darangga's older brother. (1491-1492)
Jo Iriga 趙義里哈 조의리합 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who asked to give back Sejengge's belongings when was killed by a soldier of Joseon. Sejengge's father. (1491)
Jo Isiga 趙伊時哈 조이시합 A Ya-in(野人) of 右衛 who wished to attend the audience with the King. (1483)
Jo Isiga 趙伊時可 조이시가 A Jurchen(女眞) of 左衛 whose family were killed by Joseon people at 1479. (1484)
