When he served as army supervisor (jianjun 監軍) of the expeditionary force to suppress the revolt of the Prince Anhua (Anhua Wang 安化王), he accused Liu Jin 劉瑾 of treason. When Zhang Juzheng 張居正 wanted the court to exempt him from observing the mourning period for his late father, he argued that Zhang should fulfill the obligation with the result that Zhang demoted him.
