  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Tobohoi 托不害 탁불해 He is one of the 8 ministers of 大金國. (1627)
Togon 脫歡 탈환 Toghon. ?-1440. Head of Oirat in the mid-15th century. He appointed Toktobuka as the Khan of Mongol and killed Aruktai, a prominent figure in East Mongol. He almost unified Mongol.
Togon Buka 脫歡不花 탈환불화 A Ming envoy (1393-1394)
Tohina 土屎乃 토시내 Late 16C, Benho who had an engagement with an Orangkai (1605)
Toingge 土伊應巨 토이응거 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 下訓春. The son of Uja. (1455)
Toitemur 堆帖木兒 퇴첩목아 A 千戶 of Orangkai(吾郞哈), who visited the Joseon court and paid a tribute of local products. (1422)
Toito 土伊吐 토이토 Late 15C, a 司猛 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who had an audience with the king and was bestowed goods by the king for the contribution in the battlefield. He came from 穩城鎭 (1493-1494)
Toito 退土 퇴토 Early 15C, an 兀良哈 百戶 who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king. (1424)
Tojagi 土昨只 토작지 He is one of the Ya-ins(胡) sent by Doljangga to notify that Tadur kidnapped some women including 忽賊. (1605)
Tokto 脫脫 탈탈 He was a politician of Yuan Dynasty(元順帝). He was also known as 托克托. (1314-1355).
