  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Sada 撒歹 살대 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in 吾弄草. (1459)
Sadaingge(Sia…) 沙代應巨 사대응거 A 司猛 of Orangkai(兀良哈). (1488)
Sadangga 沙堂阿 사당아 A commander of the Udige clan(兀良哈) tribe, visited the Joseon court and paid a tribute of local products. (1427)
Sadao 沙多吾 사다오 A Hulun and a 指揮 of 卜魯兀衛 who had an audience with the king at 근정전. (1439)
Sadi 舍地 사지 兀良哈 who lived in 斜地 (1461)
Sadi 謝知 사지 A Ya-in(野人) who showed discoutesy when he met the king. (1511)
Sadiga 舍知介 사지개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 多隱. (1455)
Sadigo 撤知古 철지고 A Ya-in(野人) who lived outside of 柔遠鎭 (1496)
Sadogai 斜都可伊 사도가이 Mid 15C, 兀良哈 指揮 who was bestowed goods by the king. (1445)
