  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Pamso 破音所 파음소 A Qing envoy in the mid 17C (1644)
Panan 波難 파난 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 上訓春. The father of Daso, Nadaga. The grandfather of Dasangga.
Parangga 把郞哈 파랑합 A 指揮僉事 sent by Coi Yaona, a 指揮同知 of 阿剌山衛, to dedicate local products. (1439)
Pardasang 波乙多尙 파을다상 1. An Udige who wanted to come to the capital and marry but 康純 who served as a 都節制使 didn't allow him(1463) 2. →Gim Pardasang(it is documented between 1472-1485.)
Pardo 波乙道 파을도 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 時建. The son of Sosiu. The brother of Parda. The nephew of Hacingga, Darongga, Darhua, Ardoga. (1455)
Pargai 把兒哈伊 파아합이 Mid 15C, a Hulun who plotted to sack 閭延 and 江界. (1441)
Pari 波里 파리 Mid 15C, a Nimaca Udige(cf. Nimaca兀狄哈) (1461)
Parige 把里革 파리혁 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who came to Seoul with Mangga. (1515-1518)
Paringga 波鱗介 파린개 An Udige who presented local products to the king. (1459)
