  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Saanto 舍安土 사안토 Early 15C, an Orangkai(兀良哈) 千戶 who presented fancy goods and being bestowed by the king (1424)
Sabinga 沙賓介 사빈개 A Jurchen(女眞) whose child was kidnapped by Marungge(末應巨) etc. (1492)
Saborangga 沙甫郞可 사보랑가 A Ya-in(野人) (1460)
Sabsu 薩布索 살포색 A general in Heirong river(黑龍江) in late 17C(1686)
Saca 沙車 사거 An Orangkai(兀良哈)
Sacangga 沙昌介 사창개 A Ya-in(野人) who went to 蒲州. (1486)
Sacingga 舍稱哈 사칭합 A Ya-in(野人) of 蒲州 (1491)
