  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Macungpa 馬充波 마충파 A Ya-in(野人) who notified Joseon that Fancha is planning a marriage with Naige, the chieftain of Hulun, and in the future to attack the borders. (1441)
Madadaon 馬多多溫 마다다온 An Odoli(斡朶里) who moved to 婆猪江 with Ni Jangga who was a 指揮 of Odoli(斡朶里). (1435)

Madaha 麻多下 마다하 He is an Udige. He was a chieftain of Dogol 마을[部落]. He wished to be naturalized. (1492)
Madaho 麻多好 마다호 Late 15C, an 兀狄哈 general who tried to plunder villages in 鍾城 and 慶興 where 兀良哈s lived in. (1491)
Madahu 馬多厚 마다후 A Ya-in(野人) who was given the king's gift. (1405)
Madaiso 馬大所 마대소 Early 15C, Odoli(斡朶里) a battalion commander who offered local products and was bestowed goods (1431)
Madaronga 馬多弄可 마다롱가 He was being prisoned in Omhoi(會寧). The faher-in-law of Podangga.
Madarongga 馬加弄可 마가롱가 A military protector(護軍) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in Omhoi. The younger brother of Magumpa
